Last Saturday saw a pretty exciting day for the city of Bendigo. The highly anticipated art exhibition at the View Street Gallery debuted it's showcasing of gold icon and sexxxx symbol, Marilyn Monroesies.

This exhibition brings light to the objects and artefacts that belonged to the magnetic movie star. It also highlights 12 unprecedented films from Marilyn's career over the years. What we're most aroused about here at The Meadow however, is the display of FASHHUNN

A lot of what's on display at the exhibition are costumes and replicas of which Marilyn wore in her films, wardrobe test photographs and even garments from her personal collection.

I did some digging into what the big time babe sported during her days off, and was pleasantly surprised to see a bit of Meadow style shining through as per the facts.

Marilyn often wore neck plunging attire, halter dresses, all that glitters etc. But a lot of her weekend wear saw only neutrals, with the exception of a lil red number. She would wear a classic button up white collar top, with high waisted blue denim. Or she opted for white or beige 'slacks'. We soooooooo have that covered. Onya Maz.

Below is our Cheap Monday Disarm shirt, teamed up with our Assembly Spectrum Cotton pants. Top right is our Status Anxiety Antiheroine Clutch in Black Croc.

White button top, beige pants, black clutch

I was also pretty chuffed to see that she wore shades of forest or earthy tones, as our new drop from Melbourne brand, BUL gave us this stunning Reum Dress in Moss Green. Marilyn rarely wore loose fitting clothes, so generally a thick belt would be utilised to accentuate her waist. A wide brim sunhat with cat eye sunglasses were accessories of choice, as was red nail polish or red lipstick.

What the dazzling movie star was mostly known for was indeed those curves. It was more often than not she would rock a strapless or lowly cut neckline dress - again highlighting her hourglass figure. When she wasn't wearing neutrals, Marilyn enjoyed a spotty dress or a striped blouse. Our Vanishing Elephant Wrap Dress in Big Spots is a lovely example of a Marilyn wardrobe staple.

Located just a hop step and a leap away from the gallery itself, we really couldn't resist but be apart of the hype. And in true Meadow style, we quirked up that window as best we know how....

'THE HORSE' Appreciation Post.

I’m just going to say it. Going to go right ahead and say it. The Horse Watch is the reason for my generous Christmas bonus this year. The sole reason. Well, that - and I'm super cool.

These bad boys have been such a wonderful addition to the store, and are also the reason I played postman this summer. Yes that’s right, I hand delivered your online orders to the post office before work. Was a bit of fun to play Santa for all The Horse fans out there!

Let’s talk about these watches in specifics. Created by another husband and wife power duo, Scott & Amy Hawkes from Sydney, the simply elegant time tellers are an inexpensive luxury. There are three styles and we are lucky to stock all of them. Each style is handcrafted with grass fed leather, and literally comes in every shade of a neutral coloured rainbow.

Here they are in all of their glory:

The Original has predominately been our best seller. I would assume due to the large range. The wonderful thing about this style is that its price tag doesn’t challenge its aesthetic appeal. I’ve had people purchase two because of this, and because they’re as indecisive as I am every meal interval. This style also serves many purposes. Black & Rose Gold is a head turner, as is Blush & Rose. Yet, all black teams well with your active wear!, and Tan & Silver is perfect all day, every day.
A true winner!

The Classic was the initial style to be released. With a higher price tag, I am sometimes questioned, as it is quite smaller than the Original. You’ll come to see why when taking closer inspection at this style however. Its attention to detail is really beautiful. A small, neatly placed seconds hand resides on the glass face of the watch. And unlike the raw leather finish of the other two styles, The Classic displays a complete appearance, with stitching on either side of the band. It really is a fine-looking, timeless piece. This style is perfect for your daughter’s first special watch, or your wife’s birthday. A keep forever kind of item. This style is also a perfect alternative for those with smaller wrists - a common occurrence in store.

The Stone Collection makes the pupils dilate and the pulse quicken. Created from raw materials, this gorgeous pair feature a marble face in either black or white. The stone dials 'were lovingly produced from a raw stone sheet cut and polished to a low sheen.' No two watches are the same with this collection, with stone being a natural product offering various patterning in every time teller. This is often a really nice surprise in store for customers when they are able to decide between a handful of the same style, enabling a unique purchase.

As mentioned earlier in the blog post, these beauties are all available to order online on our website. We'll even express post your order with free shipping!

So there you bloody 'ave it! Our ageless and very sexy Horse collection. A style for everyone, and they even tell the time.

Hello, hi, aloha, suppppppp, welcome!

This is a pretty exciting time for our little boutique in Bendigo. We already grace you with our online presence in Facebook, Instagram and our official website. Today marks the day we include our newest addition to the squad – the humble blog.

  1. 1.
a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style.

This space will be utilised to give our friends (you lot) updates on what’s happening in store. Promotions, brand and product information, fashion trends and more will be shared. This platform will allow the reader to gauge a more thorough knowledge about us in a personal and hopefully humorous way. If the owner Kane was writing these, we’d have a problem with the humour element - he likes dad jokes.

As this is our first ever blog post for The Meadow, some introductions must primarily be made for you to see who we are, and what individual assets we bring to the business. (Keep an eye out for Quinn’s profile; she gets the hard sales. Impressive.)

So. Without further ado, I present to you - our good looking crew. Wow I just wrote that.

KANE: (owner)

Don’t let first impressions fool you. Although the tattoos, gangster rings and often-black attire scream BADASS, this regular face you’ll see from Tuesday until Saturday is a big softie at heart. Kane is a business mastermind and has brought this place from strength to strength since the day it was born, 6 years ago. He also does design work, so a jack of all type lad. They’re a rare breed these days. Lastly, Kane’s brand knowledge is out of this world! If you’re in the area, be sure to pop in and see the man behind The Meadow!

MATISSE: (owner)

You know when people say ‘that person could wear a paper bag and they’d look good?’ Well, excuse the metaphor – but that’s Matisse. Kane’s better half is uber cool, and is amazingly talented at product purchase for the store. This lovely lady is also a handy hairdresser, enjoys art and craft time with Quinny, and has legs for days.

QUINN: (CEO in the making)

Quinny Barri is a hilarious, bold and witty three year old. The eldest daughter of Kane & Matisse enjoys re-arranging the children’s racks. She also likes to play with Boris, our stores guard dog. Her most recent work includes styling our Christmas themed window, and selling Kester Black nail polishes to herself. She actually strutted in this morning & declared "I'm ready for my photo Jess!!" We love Quinn!

PIXIE: (newest member)

This sweet little thang is the Barri’s new pride and joy. At present, she isn’t doing much sales work but her smile alone melts the customers into a buying frenzy. She is the reason that Kane is pretty prominent on social media these days. #daddysgirl

JESS: (Sunday gurl & this very blog's writer)

You’ll see this young lady behind the Meadow Counter on Sundays. She sacrifices big Saturday nights so that Kane & the gang can go to the park on Sundays. She is also the writer of this blog page, so you’ll get to know a bit of her personality each week. Jess is finding it difficult to write this paragraph in third person. In store, she loves chatting to new faces and tends to be a bit of a jet with the Horse Watch sales…if she doesn’t say so herself.

JANET: (not a regular mom, she’s a cool mom)

Janet is Matisse’s mum, and you will find her here in store when times are busy. Oozing coolness, you’re in luck when you run into her on shift! Ask her about anything ALPHA 60 and try and leave without a hint of envy for her style. I guarantee it’s impossible.

So that’s the A Team here at The Meadow, Bendigo. We are really looking forward to sharing a bit more about us & our store each week through this blog.

We appreciate feedback and any questions you may have. In fact - we would love it! There is a contact button on the top right of our website's homepage, should you feel the need to ask Jess if she’s single (she is) or why Kane is bald.

Thanks so much for reading, and see you for blog number two next week!
